Simone Holliger's artistic practice has evolved over several years in the form of monumental sculptures made from a variety of materials. Taking inspiration from her surroundings, she develops works that both claim exhibition spaces and participate in public environments. Driven by a curious approach to aesthetics and the physical properties of materials, she experiments with the limits of sculptural form-making. Central to her practice is an interest in transformation: how materials evolve, how perceptions shift, and how moments leave lasting imprints.
Against the backdrop of a stereotypically male sculptural tradition, Holliger's work oscillates between an awareness of tradition and a formal rupture of vertical force through organic sensitivities. From these tensions emerges a personal language that draws on art history while remaining deeply embedded in our time.
Simone Holliger graduated from HEAD – Genève in 2014. She received the Swiss Art Award in 2019 and completed residencies in Berlin (2020), at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2016), and at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome (2023–24). Her solo exhibitions include Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz (2023), the Musée des Beaux-Arts La Chaux-de-Fonds (2022), and La BF15, Lyon (2022), among others. Since 2019, she has co-run the artist-run space PALAZZINA in Basel with fellow artists, exploring the interweaving of living and exhibition space.
